Beyond the Web Experience
Jul 31st, 2010
I find it interesting that whenever I talk about experience design people assume I am talking about web based experiences only. An experience is the holistic perspective, everything from experiencing interfaces, websites, physical interfaces, the environment, even the smells and tastes. Within a single day I came across three seemingly un-related topics that were all tied into user experience.. or perhaps more accurately, the human experience.
The holistic customer experience is where I have been spending most of my time and energy of late. Those experiences related to researching, buying, using, seeing in action products and services. Essentially, every touchpoint a customer has with a product or service. These three resources will get your mind wandering outside of what we think of when it comes to experience design.
Home UX - How the notion of interior architecture can extend beyond what we perceive as the status quoe. One architect in Hong Kong has re-invisioned how we experience a small condo or apartment. How do you fit 24 rooms into a 330 square foot apartment? Watch and learn. (via Nathan Smith)
Restroom UX - In Dustin Hodge‘s first blog post he explores the notion of technology for the sake of technology. In specific he looks at the use of technology within the public restroom. Human interfaces do not always need to have technology powering them, sometimes simple and low tech do the job quite well.
Food UX - This blog is entirely dedicated to the notion of taste in the human experience. The title of the blog says it all “Gastronomic Inspiration for UX Designers - FoodUX is a collection of inspirational web gems for user experience designers from the gastronomic and culinary arts.” (via Andy Budd)
