The Future of IA
Nov 9th, 2009
I gave a talk on the Future of IA at the ASIS&T 2009 annual event. It was a 15-20 minute talk with three other panelists aside from myself; Jeannette Kopak, Sandra Hirsh, and Brian Fling. The audience was mostly academic professionals in the information space and they were looking to us to tell them about emerging trends in things like social networking (Hirsh), New Media Technology (Kopak), Mobile (Fling) and of course, Information Architecture (myself). Here are my slides from the talk.
I focused mostly on data overload with the freedom of information and the increased speed at which information is being delivered. I applied that to how we can take massive amounts of data and apply that to innovative interactions to reduce the cognitive load, increase value and improve overall efficiency in information processing. I conclude with a grim look at the tools we have today do craft such experiences and urge the software manufactures who create the tools we use to become engaged in the information community and improve upon their products so they can be better adapted to what is to come with new user interfaces and user experiences. Hope you enjoy the slides.
