Cognitive Walkthrough

For any project one of the first things that a usability expert can do is to perform a cognative walkthrough of the site. This helps the expert better understand some of the things the user can do and some of the pain points the user my be experiencing with the site. This process helps idenitify known problems with a web site or web application.
One of the first projects I was tasked with when I was working at ZAAZ was to perform a cognative walkthrough on Converse.com as well as the shopping part of the site. I documented my experiences with about eight different key items that we identified as potential problems within the site. From there the document was used as a reference for future usability studies such as user surveys, user testing and so forth.
