Web Site Development

In April of 2003, well-known web designer Hillman Curtis approached me with the task of taking his existing site and redesigning it in pure CSS with XHTML. He had been getting a lot of feedback about his current site and how the text was displayed using graphics instead of formatted HTML text.
The first thing I started on was developing a prototype in which we could base the site template on. The prototype was developed using CSS for layout and typography style. I opted to use XHTML 1.0 transitional for the markup. In the image above you can see the before and after screenshots of the site. The before is the image on the left top. All of the text you see there was done with graphics and the Mini7 font. On the right is a pure CSS and XHTML based page. The only graphics I used were the heart image and the small icons going down the center of the page.
